FT Recruitment has been asked to partner with our global engineering and industrial services client, managing their recruitment process for a Project Accountant to join their finance team in Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded accountant to work closely with Project Managers, providing financial control and commercial insight across a portfolio of projects while helping drive profitability, cash flow and financial performance.
This is a permanent role suited to all candidates who ideally have a 1-month notice period or less, whilst candidates who are available at short notice are encouraged to apply.
Key Duties:
- Partner with Project Managers to provide financial control across multiple projects from mobilisation through to completion
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts and gross profit reporting
- Monitor project performance, identifying financial risks, opportunities and variances against budget
- Manage project working capital, including WIP, accrued income, accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Support monthly financial close processes, including revenue recognition, accruals, reconciliations and KPI reporting
- Review project costs, purchase orders, supplier invoices and timesheets to ensure financial accuracy and compliance
- Prepare financial analysis and reporting to support operational and commercial decision-making
- Assist with forecasting, profitability reporting and variance analysis across business lines
- Maintain accurate financial documentation, ensuring compliance with governance, audit and accounting standards
- Work collaboratively with Finance, Operations, Procurement and Shared Service teams to improve project performance and financial controls
Experience Required:
- Previous experience working as a Project Accountant or within a project-focused management accounting role
- Experience supporting long-term or complex projects within an engineering, industrial or similar commercial environment
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, revenue recognition and project financial reporting
- Experience working with integrated ERP/business management systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Professional accounting qualification (CA, CIMA or equivalent) or working towards qualification
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to partner effectively with operational stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate financial information to strict deadlines
